Paul Ambrose has been flying the Pitts Special since 1997 and now has over 500hrs on type. Initially trained in competition flying by Alan Cassidy, he sought instruction from several top-level instructors on both sides of the Atlantic to build up a breadth and depth of experience before gaining a display authorisation. He has experience in other light aircraft types including Cubs, C152 taildraggers and Tiger Moths as well as the more usual club types.

He is a training captain with a major airline and has over ten thousand flying hours. His experience includes the Lockheed L1011 TriStar, the 747 “classic”, the fly by wire Airbus, and now the 747-400. His airline career has also included technical and flight safety roles, as well as instructing CRM and human factors. Prior to commercial flying he read aeronautical engineering at Imperial College and worked in aircraft design and manufacture.

Paul gained his Class Rating Instructor qualification with ex test pilot David Scouller at Old Sarum, where he still instructs part time. He then gained his CAA aerobatic instructor rating with Dai Heather-Hayes, CAA examiner and well-known Pitts display pilot.

Paul Ambrose brings the same professionalism demanded in his role as an airline captain to Special Flight operations; safety, reliability and satisfied customers are the keynotes.
