The “Pitts Special” was the brainchild of the legendary designer Curtis Pitts and was nothing less than a revolution in aerobatic aircraft design. It was purpose designed and built for aerobatics; immensely strong but also agile.

Like all good designs it just looked right and it flew right too. In the 1970`s it swept the board at the world aerobatic championships winning the team, the men's and the women's world championship.

Aerobatic display teams such as the Red Devils in the USA and the Marlboro and Rothmans teams in the UK helped introduce the Pitts to thousands of enthusiasts worldwide and help it become the definitive aerobatic biplane.

In common with other great aircraft the original design concept proved so robust that continual development from the 1940`s to the present day has been possible.

In 1971 Curtis introduced the two seat S-2A with a 200hp engine, and by 1983 a 260hp engine was powering the S-2B. These two variants allowed aerobatic flight to be introduced to many more people by becoming a widely used aerobatic trainer, and the bigger airframe lent itself well to display and competition flying. Curtis passed away in 2005; sixty years after his “Special” first took the skies. His legacy lives on in a piece of aviation history. Performance and character combined in the “Pitts Special”
