“Special Flight” provides the following training options for the PPL holder, any of which can be included in the one-hour biennial instructional flight if required.
CAA-approved aerobatic training - Whether you wish to progress to competitions, displays, or simply fly a 'Sunday afternoon loop', Special Flight can show you how.
Pitts type conversion – Learn to handle this high performance aircraft, whether building up to owning your own Pitts or simply to experience the satisfaction of flying an aerobatic classic.
Complex types – The S-2B is a taildragger with a constant speed propeller, so “Special Flight” can offer differences training in these areas.
Advanced handling – The Pitts is a stable but very responsive aeroplane with a large propeller and power to weight ratio. Effects of controls such as rudder use with power changes are pronounced and will raise awareness and skill levels in any pilot. Recovery from unusual attitudes and low speed flight including stall / spin awareness and recognition can also be explored.
All Pitts flights commence with a one to one ground briefing to enhance safety and to maximise the benefit of time spent in the air. The performance of the Pitts means that there is little time lost in transit and gaining height before commencing the main content of a flight. Popham is situated 6 miles SW of Basingstoke, Hampshire. It is a unique airfield with a wide variety of aircraft types, and the operating environment means taxiing and airborne delays are rare.
